Field of Dreams

So it apparently doesn’t just happen in the movies…

It’s one of the most dreamed-about scenarios to any sports fan; you’re in the stands, watching your favorite team play and suddenly, due to injuries or some other freakish accident, the team needs you.

The coach points up to the stands and calls your name… now it’s your turn.

You rush down from the stands, get dressed in the team’s uniform, take the field and score the winning goal!

And then you wake up…

Only for one young lady from Scotland, it wasn’t a dream, it actually happened.

Sarah pic 200x223 Field of DreamsLast week, the Scottish National team was playing against the Norwegian National team, and 20-year-old university student Sarah Crilly, who plays for club team Hamilton Academical, was sitting in the stands enjoying the game with friends, not knowing that something bizarre yet wonderful was about to happen.

Up 1-0 at halftime, the Scots were suffering through a plethora of injuries that had depleted their bench and left them with only two or three reserves, so the coach did what any coach would do, he turned his attention to Crilly who, the day before, had scrimmaged with the team.

From The Scottish Sun:

The 20-year-old Hamilton Ladies midfielder was only a spectator at the game against Norway before she was rushed to the dressing room following an injury SOS.

She had to play in borrowed boots TWO SIZES too big – with three pairs of socks to keep them on. But she kept her nerve to score the equaliser as Scotland trailed 2-1 with just five minutes left.

Her sudden appearance as a second-half sub left friends and family stunned – as they didn’t even know she was at Dunfermline’s East End Park.

Delighted Sarah, of Carluke, Lanarkshire, said: “I was there for a day out with my pals – next thing I know I’m stepping on the park. It was crazy. […] I couldn’t believe it when I scored. It was incredible.”

Perhaps the Chicago Cubs should try this tactic…
